Composer Christine Nafziger shares some of her thoughts on the two songs:
In preparation for writing "We Will Stand, We Will Speak," I looked through the first part of Genesis and through a lot of Psalms. I began taking note of the actions of God toward God's people. There are so many of them!
Because testimony is first and foremost about God, I wanted to start the song by naming a few of the countless things God does to/for us. I then wanted to name our response to all God is doing — to open our mouths and testify to God's great deeds!
There are many verses in the Old and the New Testament about God's people testifying to God's work, praising God for what He's done, for who He is. Here are just a few:
The second song I wrote, "I Will Stand," came to me later, so I thought I would share it as well. It is simpler and is written in first person. The inspiration for the chorus came from Psalm 22:22:
May these songs be a blessing to you and your congregation, and may they challenge you to tell others what God is doing in your life and in the world around you.
